blank screen on boot after kernel compile
Well, when I turned on the computer this morning there was the usual startup Vista progress bar (moving green dots) then nothing - blank screen and no noticable noise from the pc. I noticed the last DVD disc was still sitting in the drive - I took it out and restarted. Same thing. Restarted and entered the boot

I downloaded the windows xp x64 trial cd and have tried installing it on a different partition from the 32-bit xp to make a dual boot configuration. After getting past the inital setup phase and restarting I get the option of both windows. when I try to boot windows xp x64 all I get is a blank screen.

I can see the Grub boot screen and when I select Suse Linux I can see (after clicking Esc) that a lot of stuff is loading. I also see the progress indicator going till the end and then I get a black screen. I can also boot in 'safe' mode and start the Sax2 from the console and change the graphics settings.

After installing the Novell Client on a new laptop, I reboot the computer and right after the xp logo loading screen, I get nothing but a black screen and a cursor. Any idea what is causing this? After going into the laptop via safe mode and uninstalling Novell, it then will boot properly.

If its XP it can get seriously confused if it can see the original and the clone during the first boot after the copy. with a 30G drive using Maxtor's Maxblast cloning software...which works fine until I try to reboot to the cloned drive...at which point it just hangs with a black screen after the BIOS windows.
